If you’ve never heard of the VSCO app, you are not alone. VSCO is an unsung hero in many social circles — in fact, very often, our interns tell us VSCO is their favorite social media app. What is it, though?

VSCO is a application for aspiring photographers to edit and share their works, and arranges them to match aesthetic content. This app makes it easy for photographers works to be displayed for potential employers and followers. But, how is it different from Instagram? Well, it’s simple really. Where insta allows you to like, regram, comment, and share via other platforms, VSCO has a much simpler focus. It’s just a dashboard of your photos that you’ve taken, edited, and captioned, and a private chat for followers or potential employers to contact you. That’s it.

So, why is VSCO important? From our perspective, it’s an up-and-coming application, not only as an outlet for photographers, but as a unique marketing tool as well. VSCO’s service “VSCO Connect” connects brands with photographers who fit the brand’s visual aesthetic. This is a great way for a.) photographers to make money for their art, and b.) companies to become more of a presence on their social media platforms. VSCO matches photographers with brands by using their artificial intelligence engine “Ava” to sift through the apps tagged content and use the information to pair aesthetics. It’s a really neat tool for any brand or company who’s looking to take that extra step toward social media success.
