Here at Metter Media, we’re lucky enough to spend day in and day out surrounded by some of the strongest females I’ve ever met. “We’re all women under 30,” I explain to new prospects in boardrooms full of men, never taking for granted how proud I am of that fact.
I appreciate that these strong women inspire me to be a better person every day, but I can’t ignore the fact that not all women have it so easy. Recent setbacks in reproductive rights, immigrant rights, and support for low-income mothers are just a few of the issues we grapple with daily now. The landscape can be so disheartening, our social media company had to write a blog about how to take a break from social media.
So what do we do? Where do we go from here?
First and foremost, support women’s rights by continuing to get shit done as a powerful woman — as a female leader, #GIRLBOSS, and strong-willed and hard-working individual. Then do these things:
1) Follow the feminist accounts below to make sure you constantly get inspired. Don’t lose sight of the good that does exist in this world. Use them to keep making yourself better.
2) Take the time to really listen to others, especially people who have different experiences. Reach out to someone of another race, gender identity, or religion and ask them what their life is like. You may never fully understand their unique experience, but acknowledging your differences can also help you see what you have in common.
3) Find any way you can to get involved. Volunteer or make donations to organizations that help women, like homeless shelters, soup kitchens, or Planned Parenthood (we love supporting Rosie’s Place here at Metter Media). Or organize open forums in your community (like S P A C E Boston has), that talk about the issues the marches and protests may not address.
And never, never give up on fighting for what you believe in.
