Things are starting to shake up as Facebook begins to take over whatever is left of the OG Instagram. Also, precise location sharing on Facebook? Creepy much?? Find out all about it on this week’s #MMSocialReport:
1.Twitter for iOS adds new ‘data saver’ feature for easier control of data usage
by @ChanceHMiller via @9to5mac
No need to worry about Twitter using up all your data with the new data saver feature. If you updated your iPhone to the new iOS 12, you’ll find that Twitter added an option to control data usage. By enabling ‘data saver,’ videos will not autoplay and images will automatically load in a lower quality.
2.Instagram launches scannable Nametags, tests school networks for teen growth
by @joshconstine via @TechCrunch
Big news for Instagram as it launches Nametags, a feature designed to quickly connect with new friends. Similar to Snapchat’s Snapcode feature, Nametags also uses the concept of being able to scan ‘Nametags’ to find other users. To access your Nametag, tap on the three-line hamburger menu on your profile and have your friend open the Instagram Stories camera to scan your code.
3.Instagram is testing the ability to share your precise location history with Facebook
Social-stalkers, rejoice! Instagram is currently testing a feature that would allow it to share your location data with Facebook, even when you’re not using the app… just like its competitor Snapchat.
4.Facebook’s Redesigned Messenger Layout is Now Being Rolled Out to Some Users
by @adhutchinson via @socialmedia2day
5.The Facebookification of Instagram Has Begun
by @4evrmalone via @NYMag
It’s only been a few weeks since Instagram co-founders Kevin Systrom and Mike Krieger announced that they were leaving the company. However, that hasn’t stopped Zuckerberg and his team from coming up with new features. The company is testing a new feature called “school communities” that will make it easier for users to identify themselves as students of a given institution and find their peers. In addition, they are rolling out a feature called “Nametag,” (see above) which is effectively a carbon copy of the SnapTags that Snapchat has offered for years. Touche Instagram, touche.

Someone who works at a charity shop put Jeff Goldblum in every single photo frame 😂 pic.twitter.com/ey67khUNiG

Heaven IS a place on earth. In recent viral tweet news, there is a charity shop with pictures of Jeff Goldblum in every picture frame in the store. Every. Single. Frame. This is by far some of the most noble charity work we have ever seen.
