1. Tiktok is testing interest-based ad targeting

Early adopters of the short-form social video network TikTok probably saw this one coming. For the rest of us, TikTok’s is seeking to monetize its platform by offering its ad platform to a small set of agencies. It seems like TikTok based their ad platform on interests for better targeting, but the newness of the platform has some agencies raising some doubt. The jury’s still out on actual effectiveness, so you can be sure we’ll be following every move that the video platform makes in coming days …
2. Facebook is launching Avatars for Messenger and the News Feed
In a very Snapchat/Bitmoji like move, Facebook has announced that they are launching a fun new way for users to react in chats and comments as themselves as Avatars. This will allow users to create customizable digital characters to represent themselves in Messenger chats and News Feed comments. While it currently is only open to Australian Facebook users, the rest of us will be allowed to try Avatars out at the end of this year or early next year.
3. Netflix Is Testing an Instagram-Like Feed of Photos and Videos
In its mobile app, Netflix has begun testing a feed feature, similar to that of Instagram, where users can view trailers, photos, and alerts for upcoming shows. It can be accessed through a dedicated “extras” button that emphasizes the ability to share recommendations with others.

5. YouTube will remove hate speech and conspiracy videos
YouTube is to remove thousands of channels and videos after facing immense criticism for not banning white supremacy and hate speech content. They just revised their community standards, and will work to specifically target content “alleging that a group is superior in order to justify discrimination, segregation, or exclusion…”
