Lots of updates in Social Media world this week — first: welcome back, Giphy! Plus, Facebook tries to catch up Instagram by releasing stickers on stories, while Snapchat works hard on saving the brand by updating new features. More about the social media trends this week in our #MMSocialReport:
1. Facebook Rolls Out New Options for Facebook and Instagram Stories
by @adhutchinson via @socialmedia2day
Lagging behind Instagram, Facebook finally released new stickers on Stories, which include weather, location, and a ‘Name’ sticker that allows users to tag friends. Maybe we’ll see a polls function next?
2. Snapchat launches group video calling, @ mention tagging for snaps
by @kerrymflynn via @mashable
After all the controversial updates earlier this year, Snapchat wants to make ‘chat’ hot again. Its group video chat feature offers users a new way to communicate and allows up to 16 people chat at a time. Will it save the brand? We will see!
3. Spotify Knows Every Month Is Black History Month
by @jeffcbeer via @FastCompany
Instead of Black History ‘Month’, Spotify prioritizes celebrating black history *all year*! Its new program, which partners with artists that are working with communities of color, shows Spotify’s acknowledgement of black history culture and its authentic brand value. We should all follow suit.
4. Pinterest launches a feed of just the boards and users you follow
by @hillarygrigonis via @DigitalTrends
Sometimes the recommendations in Pinterest’s home feed just make no sense. Pinterest’s new Following tab only shows the boards and people you follow.
5. Snapchat lets Giphy back onto its platform after racist GIF incident
by @Shannon_Liao via @verge
Hello again, GIFs! After being removed due to a racist incident last month, Giphy finally came back to Snapchat and Instagram, and we feel like we’re home again. Hope we never lose GIFs again!
