It’s been another one of those weeks where social media platforms are releasing some controversial (some just confusing) updates to their apps. Facebooks allowing prerecorded content in their live videos, LinkedIn is using GIF’s, and sunglasses now have… wifi? Read on for more social media mayhem in this week’s #MMSocial Report!
1. LinkedIn Teamed Up with Tenor to Add GIFs to it’s Messaging
by David Cohen @Adweek
LinkedIn is getting a little more casual than usual. Its partnership with Tenor has allowed LinkedIn users to add GIFs to direct messaging, in addition to the filters and fonts the app added last month.
2. Snap, then Shop — Snapchat Rolls Out Affordable Shoppable AR Filters
by @HillaryGrigonis via @DigitalTrends
Businesses now have the opportunity to advertise and sell their products directly through sponsored Snapchat filters. You can now buy products without leaving the Snapchat app, as well as watch movie trailers, or check out the Snapchat Store for more merch.
3. Facebook Tests Out New Video Format to Boost Communal Viewing Engagement
by @adhutchinson via @socialmedia2day
Facebook has created a new video option that will allow users to post pre-recorded content during Facebook Live posts. Approved publishers will now have the opportunity to post content that isn’t live and mark it as a “premiere” video before the start of a Facebook Live post to advertise like a movie trailer.
4. You Can Finally Download All of Your Instagram Photos at Once
by @chris_writes via @BGR
That’s right, you can finally download all of your Instagram photos thanks to Europe’s new GDPR rules about transparency with user data terms and conditions. Sounds like a win-win for Instagram users!
5. Snap’s Spectacles 2 Can Take Stills and Don’t Mind the Rain
by @Andyboxall via @DigitalTrends
The mark 2 Spectacles by Snap Inc. are water resistant, contain microphones, have wifi, and can take still images while keeping you fashionable and high tech.
