Working with interns every semester is so much fun. Finding their talents, learning their personalities and developing their interests is all a part of our job as intern hosts at Metter Media. After four years of interns, we wanted to dive in and see where they are now. Rachelle del Aguila is one of our superstar interns, who joined our team in 2015 and brought endless amounts of dedication, strategy, and passion to our intern team. What are you doing since you left Metter Media — jobs, schools, etc.? Any fun projects?
After my internship at Metter Media, I’ve worked in EdTech and went to grad school in the UK, where I’ve focused on data governance, algorithmic bias, and smart cities. Right now, I’m getting ready to travel to Y Combinator to pitch my FinTech app. In my spare time, I’m leveraging my marketing skills for Tech for Campaigns, where I support progressive political campaigns.
How are you using social media today?
Aside from keeping up with astrology Twitter, I’ve used my social media skills to grow various brands. My favorite recent project focused on growing an account, where I promoted Geena Davis’ film on Hollywood gender equity.
What is the most important thing you learned at Metter Media?
As a woman in the workforce, one of the biggest lessons I carry with me until this day is the way I communicate in a professional setting (particularly in email).
As I progress in my career, I’ve realized the importance of sounding confident when I communicate with stakeholders.
Thank you to the MM team for providing this crucial piece of feedback!
What advice do you have for future interns/people entering the field?
I cannot stress the importance of networking enough. Although some may find it initially intimidating to meet new people, I’ve found that networking is a crucial step towards career success. Personally, I’ve found great mentors and sponsors along the way who have graciously advocated for my work.
What project or skill from your MM internship are you using now?
Even though it’s been a few years, I still showcase my MM final project during interviews! That particular project paved the path towards my interest in content insights, and it serves as a foundation whenever I evaluate marketing strategies.
What is your favorite social media channel and why?
Twitter, hands down. I took a social media hiatus this past year, but I found myself re-downloading the app to keep up with the memes and quips.
Would you rather fight one horse-sized duck or 100 duck-sized horses?
Ducks are rather vicious, therefore I’d choose to fight a hundred duck-sized horses.
