Facebook takes over on this week’s #MMSocialReport — from Facebook Stories to Facebook fundraising, the social media app had a huge week for unveiling new tools and features for their users. But what do you think about it?
1. You can now call your congressman through Facebook
by @b_fung via @washingtonpost
A new feature on Facebook called “Town Hall” now provides everyday users with their local, state, and federal representatives’ contact information. Since the election in November, there has been an overwhelming desire from the public for this information and Facebook has now made it so much easier to access.
2. Facebook is testing new buttons and an option to cache some videos for offline viewing
by @jccpalmer via @AndroidPolice
Some hawk-eyed Facebook users spotted a new toggle button deep in the mobile app’s settings that allows users the option to watch videos without using mobile data. While this option was only available to some users, we’re assuming the feature caches videos for offline use. Is this something you see yourself using if Facebook decides to roll out the feature for real?
3. Facebook Stories: Everything You Need to Know About Facebook’s Latest Feature
You’ve probably noticed that new bar at the top of your news feed on Facebook mobile – it’s Facebook Stories. This article details everything you need to know about the new feature while comparing it to the similar Snapchat and Instagram Stories features. Do you think it’ll catch on or would you rather stick with Snapchat and Instagram?
4. Night Shift is now available on your Mac so you can finally get some damn sleep
FINALLY Apple cares about our sleep. The new MacOS Sierra update now allows laptop users to enable NightShift, a feature that cuts down on the amount of blue light that your computer screen emits, allowing your body to recognize that the light that’s coming out of your screen is not in fact sunlight and it’s time to stop scrolling through Twitter and get to bed.
5. Facebook now lets you ask friends for charitable donations
by @napilopez via @thenextweb
While previously only available to the non-profits of Facebook, this fundraising feature has finally gone public – but only for charitable donations. The “personal fundraiser” feature that was unrolled this week is taking on crowdfunding services like GoFundMe and Kickstarter by allowing users to target a certain audience that was at one point unaccessible. But what’s to stop us from asking our friends for a couple extra bucks for that completely necessary thing we want on Amazon?
