1. 6 Ways Twitter Has Changed the World
via @mashable
After years of gauging public opinion, Twitter has celebrated its 10th anniversary this past week by taking a look back at the top tweets from the social network. Once considered a site for boring breakfast updates, Twitter has truly changed the conversation around politics, science, business, and more. Although users still have trouble consistently using the network, it has proved to be an essential tool for journalists and other professionals across the world to report on events in real-time. Mashable rounded up the top six ways Twitter changed the pace of conversations, and it’ll only get better from here.
2. Twitter Celebrates its 10th anniversary With a Look Back at its Most Notable Moments and More
via @TechCrunch
Some of the most notable internet moments from the past 10 years have sprouted from Twitter, which has evolved into a platform where diverse communities come together to report, socialize, and celebrate topics across the board. From whistleblowing to make up tutorials, Twitter’s evolution was documented and released by its official account this past week marking the top events that have happened (such as #RoyalBaby and #MiracleOverTheHudson), which allows us to reflect on how we’ve come closer as a global community through the power of social networking.
3. Facebook is Testing a Feature That Alerts You if Someone is Impersonating Your Account
by @karissabe via @mashable
Catfishers, beware – Facebook is now cracking down on fake profiles throughout social media. Catfishing has been a major problem for dating site and social media users throughout the world, and can be argued as borderline identity theft. By limiting this type of abuse, Facebook is looking to help eradicate abuse towards women by also launching a feature that allows users to report, “…nonconsensual intimate images,” and a photo checkup feature. Do you feel safer now that Facebook is looking to eliminate this?
4. Instagram Beefs Up Web Interface With Notifications Tab
by @joshconstine via @techcrunch
Instagram has finally made the desktop version of the app a little bit more useful. You still can’t upload photos or see any that you’re tagged in, but your notifications are now available in a new tab in the upper-right corner. Is this a stepping stone to full web access to your account? The company chose to decline whether this was part of a much bigger move – only time will tell where Instagram will go!
5. Twitter might soon let you add stickers to photos
by @aghoshal via @thenextweb
Do you love stickers? Of course you love stickers! Even if you don’t, Twitter’s about to roll out a new addition to the app – stickers for your photos. Consider it a customized geofilter for your posts. Could this bring in competition for Snapchat? Twitter hasn’t announced an official release date, so be on the lookout for this fun new feature!
