2. Peeple, the ‘Yelp for people,’ Has Launched — and Everyone Still Hates It
by @karissabe via @mashable
When Peeple, also known as the “Yelp for People.” went viral last year, it was hit HARD by the internet – the public was not happy and went as far as renaming the app as “Libel.” This time around, Peeple has created and launched an iOS app with hundreds of internet-users voicing their frustration on social media. Why so much backlash, you may ask? The app allows users to rate another person based on their professionalism, personal(ity), and dating aptitude; however, it also lets users go as far as rating other people who did not consent and aren’t even on the app. Although Peeple has posted a lengthy FAQ regarding how users may use the app, it still has a long way to go to repair its image.
3. Facebook Messenger Adds Music, Starting With Spotify Song Sharing
by @joshconstine via @TechCrunch
If Facebook-owned Messenger isn’t on your radar, it’s about to be – the app recently announced a partnership with Spotify, in which users can now send playlists and songs back and forth via Messenger. By tapping the “More” section in threads, iOS and Android users are able to install the Spotify option and share content. Once a song, artist, or playlist is selected in Spotify, users are transported back to Messenger where they will be prompted with whether they want to send the cover art to the thread. So, yes, you can in-fact order your Uber through Messenger, share your Uber playlist with a friend via Messenger, AND listen to “Uber Everywhere” in your Uber ride via Spotify. Oh, what a time to be alive.
4. Save Thousands of Dollars and Go to Coachella in VR
by @lhockenson via @thenextweb
Missed your chance to nab a Coachella ticket? Never fear – VR is here to save the day. Announced this week, Coachella has partnered up with Vantage.tv for a chance to offer the first virtual reality experience from the festival. If you already have a VR headset, you can go ahead and go to the App store for either iOS or Android and download exclusive content from before, during, and after the show. Sounds like a money-saving opportunity, right? You’ll even get a 360-view of the grounds.
5. Google+ Now Gives Verified Profiles, Early Access to New Features to Some Collections and Communities Users
by @fredericl via @TechCrunch
Over the past couple of months, Google+ has slowly shifted from a standard social network towards a content-curation focus (similar to Pinterest, but with a “blog” twist). Since launching the redesigned Google+ in November, the network is now rewarding the most active users on the site by featuring collections, verifying profiles, and giving exclusive access to a private channel with the Google+ team.
6. Why Your Brand Should Embrace Facebook Reactions
by @2TALLINmania via @socialmedia2day
Everyone loves emojis – there’s no secret when it comes to this fact. However, it’s surprising to see most brands not entirely embracing the potential of Facebook’s newly launched Reactions. Before the launch, Facebook users would openly complain about not having a “dislike” button, which warranted awkward exchanges of “liking” as a form of acknowledging (whether the Facebook update was good or bad). Now, brands have the opportunity to receive the exact reaction they want from the consumers on social media by utilizing the Reactions. Encourage this within your brand today, and you could see higher amounts of interaction with your fans.
