#MMSOCIALREPORT

Friday is here, social media nerds… and so is the #MMSocialReport! Facebook introduces a new function to help advertisers reach consumers better through video, Instagram has a one-up on Snapchat (but it still feels like copying), and a Snapchat update brings three new features — all this and more in this week’s report!

1. Facebook’s Launching a New, Immersive Ad Format Called ‘Collections’

by @adhutchinson via @socialmedia2day

Facebook wants to help advertisers reach consumers better with its new ‘Collections’ ad feature. You can now click on video or images from your Facebook feed and be directed to the product catalog. “According to Facebook, 75% of consumers say that watching a video on social media influences their purchase decisions.”

2. Snapchat update delivers a ton of new ways to upgrade your snaps

by @karissabe via @mashable

Snapchat continues to update with three new “creative tools”— you can now add backdrops to your photos, use voice filters without an animated lens, and use the Paperclip feature to add outbound links to your snaps. The linking to outer-sites saga continues…

3. Instagram Stories get a cool feature that Snapchat doesn’t have

by @karissabe via @mashable

You can now reply to Instagram Stories directly with a photo or video. This is the platform’s one-up on Snapchat, where you can only reply to a story with text.

4. Instagram is cracking down on fake influencers

by @carissajaade via @thenextweb

The social media influencer market is booming, and Instagram has noticed. In an effort to make the platform more authentic, Instagram is shutting down third-party websites and apps that automate spam comments and likes. You might recognize some of the offenders: Instagress, InstaPlus, and PeerBoost. Sayonara, BOTS.

5. Facebook wants to make group video chat a thing with its next app

by @aghoshal via @thenextweb

Last year the video group chat app Houseparty launched, but its popularity quickly crumbled. Now Facebook is prepping Bonfire, it’s own clone of the app that is expected to launch sometime this fall.
