Metter Media Social Report, July 28, 2017

#MMSocialReport

Awesome news in this week’s #MMSocialReport: Adobe is finally killing off Flash, and Microsoft confirms that Paint will still be available for Windows 10.

We also cover a Google Chrome extension that will allow you to view Facebook stories on it’s browser, BuzzFeed is selling a hot plate that can be connected to your smartphone, and lastly find out what the Snapchat Hotdog means for the future of AR.

1. Adobe is finally, finally, killing flash

by @karissabe via @mashable

According to a statement from the company by 2020, they will stop supporting and updating Flash. “Google notes that today, only 17 percent of Chrome users visit a site that depends on Flash each day, compared with 80 percent three years ago”, that’s a huge difference and Adobe has noticed. Sites that use Flash will continue to work until 2020, than it’s #RIPFlash.

2. Microsoft Paint avoids brush with death

by @zsk via @BBCTech

Microsoft listed Paint as a feature that would either be removed or no longer developed for Windows 10. Paint has been part of the Windows operating system since 1985. Luckily, earlier this week Microsoft confirmed in a blog that the 32 year old program is getting a 3D upgrade and will be available for free on the Windows Store.

3. Facebook Stories for Google Chrome

by @MattNavarra via @Producthunt

This Google Chrome extension will allow you to view Facebook stories straight from your browser… yay?

4. Why is Buzzfeed selling a hot plate? Beacause it sucks to be a media company right now

by @JasonAbbruzzese via @mashable

You’ve probably watched a Tasty by BuzzFeed video at least once in your life (I mean, they crowd Facebook feeds daily). After the success of the bestselling Tasty cookbook, BuzzFeed is moving to kitchenware. The first venture into retail is a hotplate that is operated via smartphone through the Tasty app.

 5. What Snapchat’s Dancing Hot Dog Means for the Future of AR

by @GarettSloane via @adage

The very-loved character is the first that uses the company’s 3D “World Lens” technology. Snapchat continues to excel in the AR world, Facebook, Apple, and Google are scrambling to keep up.
