1. ABC News Teams With Facebook for 24-Hour Live Political Convention Coverage
Showing how critical social media is of traditional media in attempts to reach their audience, ABC News has partnered with Facebook to bring 24-hour coverage of the Republican and Democratic National Conventions. 2. How Social Media is Saving Lives
by @BrianHughes116 via @socialmedia2day
We love social media and know how awesome it is, and this article is just the cherry on top of the ice cream sundae that is social media goodness. Here are two cases where social media is saving a lot of lives. In the battle against drug addiction, one office in Gloucester, MA, created an initiative to sponsor drug addicts and send them to rehab and shared it with millions of people through Facebook. On the other side of the country, a California school district is using technology to monitor social media posts for any indications of suicide, cyberbullying, truancy, or threats to the campus’ safety. These threats are monitored by the school in an attempt at suicide prevention. Good job social media, keep it up!
3.You can now use Bitmoji inside Snapchat
by @film_girl via @Mashable
You can now share your feelings through Snapchat using Bitmojis, and not just a weird facial expression. Snapchat purchased Bitstrips, the maker of Bitmoji, back in March. Now it has been confirmed that the two will work together. To get your Bitmojis keyboard in Snapchat, go to Settings, then select the Bitmoji section, and accept when prompted to link your accounts together. And voila, a beautiful Snapchat and Bitmoji union.
4. Anyone can now apply to be verified on Twitter
by @fitztepper via @techcrunch
Are you an OG Twitter user? So much so that you remember when Twitter allowed users to apply for verification years ago? Well, it’s back! Twitter announced on Tuesday that it will be opening the doors for influencers, creators and anyone else to try and get that selective blue check mark next to their username. Currently, 187,000 users on the platform are Verified — that’s about .06% of the company’s 310M monthly active users. Twitter should prepare for an onslaught of hopefuls looking for their own personal blue check.
5. Is Video the Next Big Thing For LinkedIn?
by @JohnNemo via @socialmedia2day
LinkedIn’s recent sale to Microsoft is giving the professional social network the ability to access Microsoft-owned products and software platforms. Recently, a LinkedIn Insider shared that they are working on some “top secret” video projects. Will they introduce native video functionality, or use video calling through a LinkedIn and Microsoft-owned Skype integration? Only time will tell…
