In this week’s #MMSocialReport, the social media world is gearing up for #SB50 with insight from @TwitterData, Instagram is making the lives of social media managers easier with multiple account switching, and Facebook celebrates #FriendsDay by live-streaming Mark Zuckerberg from its headquarters. All of this and more in this week’s social report!
1. Instagram Kicks Off Its Very Own 28-Part Thriller Series
by @tweets_amanda via @thenextweb
Pay attention, Hollywood – Instagram just rolled out an intense 28-video #InstaSeries, “Shield 5”. This drama will be broadcasted daily via 15-second clips posted to its dedicated Instagram page throughout the month of February. This formatting is a unique new way filmmakers can capitalize on Instagram’s expanding platform, but will it last? We think so, since its becoming one of the best ways to broadcast innovative ads, and we can’t wait for the next video to come out.
2. The Wellesley-Born CliqBit is Your Social Media Haven for Silly Moments
by @DylanLJMartin via @BostInno
Boston is increasingly becoming one of the major hubs for startups on the East Coast, and the latest app comes right out of Wellesley. BostInno reports that the founders of CliqBit are trying to fill a gap within the social media world by providing a platform where users can enjoy the more “casual” side of social content. By combining all the strengths of Facebook, Instagram, and Snapchat, this new app is striving to “create a safe haven where friends could just focus on the silly moments of life and leave the seriousness out.”
3. Twitter is Testing a Dedicated GIF Button on Mobile
by @jonrussell via @TechCrunch
It’s no secret: Twitter users love using GIFs to express themselves, so it comes as no surprise that Twitter is attempting to incorporate a GIF button into its platform. This will bring major competition to Facebook’s Messenger app, which already has a similar function available. Although not every user has access to this mystical button just yet, TechCrunch reports that there will be options for “Trending GIFs” and mood categories.
4. Instagram Adds Multiple Account Switching for a Lucky Few iOS Users
by @bryanclark via @thenextweb
Social media managers, rejoice! Instagram has begun to roll out a new feature within its app: account switching – one of the most in-demand features IGers have requested – and it looks like our social dreams are coming true. Although this option is not available to everyone (no one on the Metter Media team has gotten it just yet), there is Latergramme in the meantime, an app which allows for seamless switching between Insta-accounts.
