1. Instagram Bug on Android Lets Other Users See Your Direct Messages

Uh oh – looks like Instagram had a major fluke for Android users this past week. According to Mashable, Instagram’s new multiple account update had a caveat for Android users: personal notifications and direct messages were directly shared with the public. Although Instagram has identified this bug and is currently working on it, the damage has been done – users on Androids can now see the bits of metadata and information on who sent what and vice versa.
2. Facebook Plans to Put Ads in Messenger

According to TechCrunch, “a leaked document Facebook sent to some of its biggest advertisers reveals that Facebook will launch ads within Messenger in Q2 2016.” TechCrunch explores what Facebook plans on doing later this coming year in terms of expanding the Messenger app to include more businesses and to create revenue. In an attempt to end the 1-800 number, it could create faster customer service, but at what cost? Ads are beginning to pop up everywhere, but will this deter you from using the app?
3. Under Jack Dorsey, Twitter Makes Customer Service Push

As caring becomes the new marketing tactic to entice consumers, Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey aims to increase customer service via the social media platform. Twitter will now allow businesses to connect with consumers by sending direct messages, which “allows users to quickly send a send a private message to a business.” This is a major move for the company, since many critics said that Twitter could not figure out a way to produce revenue from the platform.

Snapchat is taking a major lessons from Instagram and aiming to promote its platform towards an audience that creates video content, a la Kylie Jenner’s soap opera snaps last week. Tribeca Film Festival and Snapchat will join forces to find the best 200-second snap short in exchange for a pair of tickets to the film festival. So, roll your sleeves up and get working to create some Hollywood magic!
