1. Introducing Promoted #Stickers
By @ilyabr0wn via @twitterads
Twitter recently introduced Stickers, a fun way to personalize the images we tweet. Starting this week, brands now have the ability to promote and customize Stickers. Twitter is hoping this feature will offer companies the opportunity to drive brand affinity and share their message with a larger audience. Pepsi is the first company to promote Stickers, with eight custom PepsiMoji stickers and the hashtag #SayItWithPepsi.
2. How to Permanently Set Your Facebook Feed to Show Most Recent Instead of Top Stories
By @SocMedSean via @socialmedia2day
Facebook is constantly editing its algorithm that dictates what you see in your news feed, and is by default set to Top Stories, which are posts Facebook deems most relevant to you. If you ever get an itch to just see your news feed in chronological order on your desktop, Social Media Today shows you how to switch over so the posts are listed as “Most Recent.” It only stays this way for about 24 hours before it automatically reverts back to Top Stories, but it makes a world of difference — give it a try!
3. New Publisher Tools for 360 Video
By Paul Beddoe-Stephens via @facebook
This week Facebook introduced a new publisher tool for its 360 Videos with two new features, Guide and Heatmap. Guide allows publishers to create a guided tour through the video for users to follow, so they can enjoy a 360 video hands-free. For an example of the Guide tool from a users point of view, click here to watch a New York Harbor tour with ABC News. Heatmap is a visual insight tool that allows publishers to see which portions of a 360 video’s field of view the viewers are spending the more time watching. Both tools are great for publishers who want to create 360 video experiences for their followers!
4. How A ‘Hater Free’ Social Network Became A Haven For Trolls
By @AlmostZara via @forbes
Candid, a new social media app that launched last month, allows members to post their deepest thoughts anonymously, with an algorithm that would downvote comments deemed negative or trolling. However, the platform has already been taken over with sexist and racist comments from trolls using the anonymity as a cover. Candid is showing the world that social media and machine learning have a ways to go before they work together to create a more positive social media environment.
5. Facebook’s 10-Year Plan: Connectivity, Artificial Intelligence, And Virtual Reality
By @peterahigh via @forbes
Earlier this year at its F8 Conference, Facebook shared the company’s 10-year plan. The three innovation pillars that make up his vision include a focus on connectivity, artificial intelligence (AI), and virtual reality (VR). This roadmap may be for a decade out, but Facebook is already well on its way to integrating the goals into its business. Connectivity represents the goal to bring basic internet access to the developing world, AI is used in the website’s news fees, and Oculus Rift is the company’s main focus for VR technology.
