With the end of summer quickly coming up, we’ve got another #MMSocialReport for you! Instagram launches live group chat, Youtube has a new chat feature, and of course Facebook is working on some big things. All this and more in this week’s report:
1. YouTube’s new chat feature lets you discuss videos without leaving the app
by @matthewhughes via @TheNextWeb
Youtube wants to bring more people to the platform — and away from Facebook — to share videos, but it’s a little late for that. The new feature allows you to share and discuss videos without leaving the app; you can save conversations and even make your own group chat.
2. Instagram just launched a live video chat feature
by @kerrymflynn via @mashable
Last year, going live on Instagram launched, and it looks like they’re looking for new ways to attract users. This new feature allows you to group video chat, and any one of your followers can watch. This feature is currently being tested on a small percentage of users, but will soon be available for everyone in the next few months.
3. Facebook implements AI and machine learning to battle fake news
by @rachelkaser via @TheNextWeb
Facebook continues to fight fake news by making improvements to the Related Articles feature. A spokesperson says they’re using updated machine learning to filter out articles that are probably not accurate and instead grant easier access to articles with additional perspectives and information.
4. This Startup Is Helping Teen Influencers Make Thousands of Dollars a Month on Snapchat
by @Chris_Heine via @adweek
Meet Fanbytes, a new influencer marketing company that has recently helped a teenage boy make $7,000 delivering ads on Snapchat. Would you take advantage of a platform like this to find fame?
5. Facebook takes on YouTube with Watch, its new episodic video service
by @aghoshal and @TheNextWeb
Facebook has big plans for its new video service Watch… and it doesn’t look good for Youtube. It will also include a watchlist to discover what other people are watching. The service is presently being tested with a small amount of users in the US, but will soon be available nationwide.
