Kate Berry is one of our newest account managers at Metter Media. After moving to Boston from Maine, she’s made her own Boston Bucket List to ease into life as a new Bostonian. Follow along with her this summer as she explores all the city has to offer!
My next box to check on my bucket list was actually something I’ve been wanting to do with my mother. She came down from Maine to visit and, of course, wanted to explore the best the city has to offer. We walked through Faneuil Hall and proceeded to do all things “touristy” in that area. I wanted to do something that was a little more special and something that we could only do in the summer… and social media helped with the ultimate recommendation. What better summertime activity than a nice boat cruise in the harbor? Add booze and a sunset, and you have yourself a fantastic Boston evening. I really wanted to show off the city in all its glory and thought this would be the perfect way to do it.
We bought the tickets online and went over to the waterfront to grab some dinner before our cruise. We filled up on seafood at Legal Seafoods, which was our first time there (delicious), then we walked over to the loading dock. Being my mother’s daughter, we showed up an hour early to get to the front of the line. The boat was a lot bigger than we were expecting and they really packed on as many people as possible. Good thing we got there so early! We got the best seats on the boat that were seated on the top deck. We knew these would be prime sunset-viewing spots.
As we pulled out from the dock and started heading out onto the water, the air instantly became cool and crisp. On this 90 degree day, we welcomed the breeze with open arms. We sat with our drinks and stared out into the ocean — a moment that really reminded me of summers in Maine. Everyone on the boat was so friendly, helping take sunset photos of one another, and chatting about how perfect a night this was.
The captain of the boat must have known exactly what he was doing (one would hope) because he turned around and timed the sunset perfectly. Riding back towards the city, we watched the lights flicker on as the sun slowly began its descent behind the skyscrapers. There is something really serene about floating towards the harbor. Time slows down for a bit and everything becomes still — a rare moment in the city.
Anything that involves the ocean is definitely in my Mainer blood. It was really amazing to have my mom here to experience it with me. We both definitely want to go on more Boston cruises in the future. Did someone say “party boat”? Consider this one checked off my Boston Bucket List. ✓
