Who is Generation Z or Gen Z & how do you attract them on social?
Generation Z has been defined as a set of people born between 1997 – 2010. Members of Gen Z are more racially and ethnically diverse than any previous generation and are on track to be the most well-educated generation yet. They are also digital natives who have little to no memory of the world as it existed before smartphones. Gen Z grew or is still growing up in the digital era.
To help you get started with your Gen Z strategy, we asked our resident experts at Metter to share their best tips:

Don’t look like you are hard selling
Lyssa Goldberg

Instagram – good quality images, storytelling captions OR succinct, show you actually like the content you are sharing. Don’t overshare if you don’t feel it’s necessary. Tik Tok/YouTube – storytelling. There should always be a “why” behind every content, even if the why is “it’s fun.”
Emma James
Speak their language — memes, abbreviations, emojis, etc.
Kate Berry
Pop culture references and stay up to date on trends.
Katherine
Know the difference between rinsta (real Instagram) and finsta (fake Instagram/spam account). Rinsta is for perfectly curated photos and finsta is to spam post anything you want.
Hannah
Transparency & authenticity. They can tell when you are lying or trying too hard.
Raechel
Be careful what emojis you post. Certain emojis can make you seem out of touch.
