Why Your Social Media Strategy “Metters” for Reopening

Before COVID-19, if someone was planning a date night, birthday dinner, or fun daytime activity with friends — many times they’d turn to an establishment’s Instagram page to help decide where to go. The pressure for a brand to be “insta worthy” was real.

These days, the definition of “insta worthy” has certainly shifted. Prior to this time, users were looking for drool-worthy menu items, fun decor for photos, or #gramworthy activities on your business’ feed — they now will be looking for how your business will be creating a safe environment for them + their friends/family. As the need for safety becomes a real concern as customers begin to get more cautious about the experiences they partake in + the businesses they visit, it is crucial for your brand that you are displaying your protocols and standards on social media.

These are the key questions you should be providing answers to and updates you should be sharing on all social channels.

REOPENING:

Announce once you are ready to reopen and welcome back customers

Show your followers that you are excited to reopen your doors to them (in whichever form that currently takes) in a safe + cautious manner. Our friends at Cambridge Brewing Co. did an amazing job with this — socially distant, masks, and their products being enjoyed ahead of their reopening for pick up + delivery!

Make clear your adjusted hours + capacity

Are you reopening with standard hours, or adjusting them based on this new normal? How many people will be allowed in your establishment at a time? Do you need a reservation or appointment before arrival? Is outdoor seating available?

Broadcast the answers to these questions to your followers often, so that they know when and how they can come support your business.

Restaurant-specific: Make it clear what you’re offering

Make sure your customers know what you are offering if it is different from your standard menu. Share what you will be serving that day for both food and drinks. I love how Pammy’s in Cambridge has been doing this. They even show which wines pair best with what food they are serving that night, which is a great extra touch!

Do you have any new offerings? Be sure to share these as well. Whether is it a new menu item or an add-on item such as merchandise or a special sauce to-go, these will get your followers excited to order.

SAFETY PROCEDURES:

Show your team wearing their masks + gloves

This is one of the most important types of posts you can be sharing on your channel — it is vital you are showing your consumers and followers that you are taking proper precautions to keep them safe and healthy. Some people will not even order food for take out if they do not see or know which, if any, health and safety precautions are being taken.

How often are you sanitizing?
How often are you cleaning your establishment and what methods are you using? Sharing photos of how often your employees are wiping down tables, cleaning equipment, or even sanitizing your bathroom on your account will make people feel far more comfortable.

What are your social distancing guidelines?

How will you be ensuring that all guests are kept at least 6 feet apart? Show your audience how you will be adjusting your seating areas, rest areas, training areas, carry-out order pick up lines, and anything else that used to result in a congregation of people.
