Did you know that May is Mental Health Awareness Month? Not only is this an important topic, but now more than ever we need to be checking in with ourselves and showing self-compassion during these uncertain times. Statistics show that 1 in 5 people will experience a mental illness during their lifetime. But let’s be honest, everyone faces challenges in life that can impact their mental health.
In honor of Mental Health Awareness Month, we put together a few things YOU can do right now to feel better — all of which will have a positive effect on your mental, emotional, and physical health.
Communicate your needs to your quarantine team. If you need alone time, let them know. Its always better to communicate.
Reassess your social media feed. Unfollow or mute any accounts that don’t make you feel good about yourself or spike your anxiety.
Use this time to do something you love that doesn’t involve a phone screen (or at least social media) like talking a walk around your neighborhood on a nice day.
Stay hydrated. Drinking water boosts energy, brain function, and physical performance.
Virtually connect with friends. Use this extra time to connect/video chat with people you haven’t talked to in a while, like old friends, extended family, etc. People always appreciate check-in from someone who cares.
