Meet Gina Curreri: Microsoft Team Leader + Ads Strategist, and queen of the urban garden. Get to know Gina in our latest #MeetMetter spotlight!
How did you get your start in social media?
The majority of my social media experience has been on the job. While I was in college studying journalism, social media wasn’t viewed as a priority — can you believe? During my reporting internships at WBUR, Dow Jones News Fund, and more, I realized the critical role social media was beginning to play for these and other outlets. I’d seen folks carve out roles for themselves as communicators on social and thought “that’s where I want to be.”
When did you join Metter Media?
I joined Metter Media in November 2016. We’re coming up on our three-year anniversary together!
Why is social media important/relevant to your industry?
Here’s the thing: social media is important and relevant to all industries.
Whether you own a law firm, an Etsy page, an aquarium, a tech startup, or anything in between, you should be on social media. Why? Because your competitors likely are.
And if they’re not, your social media pages will help you rise above the rest. At Metter, I’ve worked primarily with technology and law organizations. It’s been rewarding to drive meaningful conversations on social media, help recruit a diverse group of engineers, and showcase digitally all the incredible work happening on the ground and in real life.
What campaigns have you helped create that make you clients stand out from the rest?
I’ve loved telling stories about Microsoft’s technology and initiatives, the talented teams behind them, and how their efforts have changed the way people work, live, and play across the globe.
What’s a typical day-in-the-life for you at Metter?
I’m up before the sun — I really value those morning hours! Once I get to work, it’s a day jam packed with campaign strategy, client relations, live event coverage, content creation, community management, and more.
What’s your #MMProTip?
Build a following that matters.
To start, focus less on the number of followers and more on your engagement rates. There’s nothing worse than a profile with 100K followers, only 20 likes on each post, and even fewer taking the actions you want them to each day. What will turn those passive fans into brand advocates? It’s a slow build — but a bit of creativity, a healthy helping of strategy and consistency, active listening, and a whole lot of authenticity!
Proudest moment so far?
Anytime we make our clients happy is a win in my book. I’ve taken special interest in paid social here at Metter. Recently, one of my proudest moments on that front was a hiring campaign that resulted in more than 27,000 potential applicants. Beyond that, having joined a team of nine back in 2016 and playing a role in its growth (nearly 20 of us now!) has been so gratifying. I’m honored each day.
