Can’t get enough social media? Neither can we! In this week’s #MMSocialReport, Facebook teases the idea of a “Tip Jar”, which could potentially become the digital busking of our time, Sprout Social takes on digital slang, @TwitterUK celebrates the #QueenAt90, and more!
1. Facebook considers letting users add a tip jar to make money from posts
by @CaseyNewton via @mashable
In this day and age, social content can catapult you into stardom (see, “DAAAMN, DANIEL!”). Despite utilizing free mediums to share your work for likes, wouldn’t it be nice to get paid? That is exactly what Facebook is experimenting with, and it’s called Tip Jar. As seen in the preview above, if your favorite, unofficial comedian posts something that makes you laugh, why don’t you throw some change their way to show how much you appreciate their work? Think of it as modern-day, digital busking. Although nothing is set in stone, given the company’s reputation for aggressive sharing, it would come as no surprise if you saw this feature within the near future (#JustGotPaid 💰💰💰).
2. All the Social Media Slang Your Brand Should Know
via @sproutsocial
What do these phrases – TFW, FOMO, and YAAASS – have in common? They’re all internet-bred slang that has come out over the past couple of years. Whether through viral videos or shortened words in your Twitter posts, social media slang is one of the best ways to communicate online. However, if you’re not familiar with these phrases, it can be incredibly hard to navigate (ty Urban Dictionary). Sprout Social has created a guide to slang, what it all means, and whether it’s appropriate for your brand voice. If you’re feeling a little ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ about words the kids are using these days, it might be time to spruce up your linguistics, fam.

Happy belated birthday, @BritishMonarchy! Queen Elizabeth II celebrated her 90th birthday yesterday, and Anglophiles and British citizens celebrated via Twitter to show their affection for Her Majesty. With so much action in the Twittersphere, there was an unofficial Twitter party that came with #HB posts, GIFs of the queen, and #TBTs to her younger days. @TwitterUK has also reported that around a quarter million tweets were sent to celebrate the queen’s birthday!
