#MeetMetter: Emma James, Account Manager, Tech Division

We just can’t quit the Mainers here at MM. Today, we’re spotlighting our most recent team member from Biddeford, Maine, who we hired and onboarded totally virtually this June: Emma James!

Emma is a whiz at social media for tech clients, coming to us after working for a boutique agency with mostly cyber security clients. Once we heard her talk AI/Cloud/ML-focused social strategy — and how she pivoted all her clients’ strategies during these unprecedented times with ease — we knew she was the right fit for our growing tech division.

Now, Emma has quickly become an integral part of our team here at MM, working with some of our largest clients: from Microsoft to biotech to tech policy accounts. Plus: she’s a team player, loves writing and storytelling, immediately connects with all of her clients and the MM team, and has the sweetest dog, Vincent — who we can’t wait to meet IRL!

Learn more about Emma’s social media journey below.

How did you get your start in social media?

My start with social media began when I joined a boutique PR agency in Portland, ME. In addition to managing social media accounts for my clients, I also wrote feature-length byline articles, organized webinars, traveled across the country to trade shows, and more. I quickly realized that a 280 character tweet could have just as much (if not more) impact as a 2,000 word byline article. The goal of communications professionals is to get your point across in the simplest way possible, and social media does exactly that.

When did you join Metter Media?

I joined Metter Media in June 2020 after deciding to make the switch from PR to social media.

Why is social media important/relevant to your industry?

Social media is important to every industry! For technology clients in particular, it’s so important to humanize the brand by making challenging topics, such as AI and cloud computing, digestible to a general audience. In addition to marketing products, social media is also a great tool for recruiting top talent, keeping an eye on competitors, and simply reaching your desired audience.

What campaigns have you helped create that make your clients stand out from the rest?

I’ve contributed to campaigns for our biotech client that both humanizes the company and demystifies the science behind gene therapy. Looking at their social media feed, it’s clear that they have a people-centered approach to everything they do, which is definitely not the case for a lot of biopharmaceutical companies. I’m proud to help them convey this message.

What’s your #MMProTip?

Be authentic, cut through the noise, and figure out what your clients really stand for. At the end of the day, the most human company will always win. Establishing goals and values early on will ensure you’re posting with purpose, not simply posting for visibility.

Proudest moment so far?

I haven’t been with the company very long, but every day I am proud to show up and help elevate my clients’ brands. Just having the opportunity to work alongside such brilliant minds makes me proud to be a part of the Metter team.
